The roguelite beat ’em up, Absolum, has now sold over 500,000 copies and players will have new content to look forward to come February 12. Co-developer and publisher Dotemu has confirmed Threads of Fate, version 1.1, arrives in a little over two weeks and brings with it Mystic Ordeals for those who want an even bigger challenge. Upon completing the game and defeating the final boss, players will find new pre-set ordeals that deliver an additional layer of challenge on top of a standard playthrough. Along with pre-made ordeals, players can also customize their own challenge and share a unique code with the world so others can give it a shot.

Another new feature heading to Threads of Fate is corrupted regions, which will be visible within Maugis’ map. Those areas will have stronger enemies, but in exchange, players will get better rewards. These corrupted regions tie into the new Mystic Ordeals, as players can control the frequency of these lands, with the option to corrupt the entire map if they want the ultimate challenge. It’s all up to you whether you want to avoid these corrupted regions or take on as many as you can.

The new patch will also add new Elite mounts throughout the world, which are bigger, better, faster, stronger, and come with upgraded attacks to take on enemies. Players can also enjoy new skins for all the heroes and new emotes, some of which have their own unique voice lines.

As a co-op, beat ’em up roguelite, Absolum was such a blast to play. As I said in my review, the combat is very satisfying with a good variety of builds. While some of the metaprogression isn’t as compelling as we’d like to see, Absolum really pushes the beat ’em up genre forward and we can’t wait to dive into Threads of Fate when it releases on February 12.
