These days, putting roguelite elements into existing genres seems to be a formula for success if done correctly. As proof, Absolum, which officially launched on October 9, has sold over 200,000 units in its first week. The game comes from Dotemu, Guard Crush Games, and Supamonks, developers who have contributed to titles such as Streets of Rage 4, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, and Streets of Fury EX. Absolum takes beat-’em-up gameplay and puts a roguelite twist on it, and the game is also the first original IP from Dotemu.

If it’s unclear what sort of game it is, think of Hades, but in the style of a classic brawler. Absolum features branching pathways to explore, quests to clear, and intriguing characters to interact with, along with challenging bosses to keep gameplay engaging. With each run, players unlock new items, quests, and permanent warrior upgrades as part of meta progression. If you’re a fan of arcade-melee combat, you’ll want to check it out.

Absolum is currently available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC for $24.99.
