Today, during the PlayStation State of Play, Square Enix debuted a new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second entry in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. Set to release on February 29, 2024 for PlayStation 5, the latest trailer reveals more than we anticipated. The cast of Cloud, Aerith, Barret, Red XIII, and Tifa are joined by Yuffie and Cait Sith with footage of the duo executing combos. Surprisingly, the trailer also gives us our first glimpse of Vincent Valentine.

Veterans of the original Final Fantasy VII will recognize many familiar sights, including the Gold Saucer and Chocobo racing. The trailer raises numerous questions. Notably, we see a living Zack dropping Cloud off at Midgar, and Sephiroth teaming up with Cloud in combat. Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura, in an interview on the PlayStation Blog, confirmed that players can control Sephiroth in Rebirth, mirroring a scene from the original game. In addition, there are some details in the blog post on how Red XIII will play differently than other characters, since he doesn’t have an ATB gauge.

The trailer also showcases glimpses of Alexander and Odin, features an array of mini-games, and includes a telling voice line from Sephiroth that hints at the overarching narrative.

Square Enix also announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake has surpassed seven million shipments and digital sales worldwide.
