It might be time to accept that we’ll never get a direct sequel to Yoshi’s Island or Yoshi’s Story. Following Yoshi’s Woolly World from 2015 and Yoshi’s Crafted World in 2019, we’ll be getting Yoshi and the Mysterious Book in spring 2026 on the Switch 2. Announced in today’s Nintendo Direct, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book continues the trend of giving Yoshi a one-off, adorably cute 2D adventure with a unique gimmick. This time, a talking book named Mister Encyclopedia (Mr. E) lands on the island where Yoshi and his friends live. Mr. E is filled with pages about mysterious creatures, but it can’t see what’s written down.

Yoshi decides to hop into the book to investigate, which takes him on a new adventure where he’ll interact with discoveries like flowers, dandelions, and more. Each of these discoveries and creatures has its own mechanics that affect the world. Based on the trailer, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book will likely stick to a similar style to Yoshi’s Woolly World and Yoshi’s Crafted World, with a much more casual 2D experience that won’t be too challenging.
