Highguard has had a wild time since its debut at The Game Awards 2025. This past week, the game finally released, and everyone has been farming it for content to the point that people are probably tired of hearing about it. Shortly after its launch, the game reached over 97,000 concurrent players, but as of this writing, it’s currently sitting at 10,540. It’s a sharp drop-off, but it appears the team at Wildlight Entertainment is working around the clock to increase Highguard’s player base.

For the game’s first weekend, the team has added an experimental 5×5 Raid playlist, a new base, and several performance improvements for 3v3. The team has also added several more options in the settings menus, so people can further customize their experience. One of the biggest criticisms of Highguard is the giant map for just 3v3. So, the lobby has been updated to allow parties of five, so the team can see how it plays. In the 5v5 mode, raids are now 10 lives instead of six, and respawns are slightly longer during raids, so generators can be planted or defused.

The new base addition is called Soul Well, and it has been added to the rotation in all modes. Wildlight says it’s a dark relic from a lost age and the Iron Vigil has now prepared the base construct for use in the field, where the dead still speak. As for optimizations, the latest patch touches on animation performance, projectiles, draw submission times, and other gameplay systems. The quality of life settings include a motion blur toggle for PC and consoles, while consoles get an anisotropic materials toggle that was already available on PC.

It will be very interesting to see what becomes of Highguard and whether its playerbase will grow. The game got review bombed out of the gate, but it has since shifted to Mixed, based on over 23,000 English reviews.
