Nintendo is making the most of MAR10 Day, and alongside the LEGO Mario Kart reveal and deals on games and accessories, we now have a release date for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. The Switch 2 exclusive launches on May 21, 2026, and a new trailer debuted through the Nintendo Today app to go along with the announcement.
When the game was first announced during the September 2025 Nintendo Direct, we only had a general spring 2026 window. The new trailer gives a better look at how the game actually plays, introducing one of the many creatures players will encounter in the storybook world. Glubbit, as it’s called, spits out bubbles that Yoshi can hop into to reach higher areas. The trailer also shows how creatures interact with different types of fruit to change their effects, which is a bit more experimentation than I was expecting from a Yoshi game. Also, if you don’t like the name Glubbit, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book actually gives players the choice of naming each creature whatever they want. Well, probably with your expected Nintendo guidelines of course.
For those who missed the initial announcement, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book follows Yoshi as a talking book named Mr. E falls from the sky onto the island where he and his friends live. Mr. E’s pages contain information about unusual creatures, but the book can’t read its own pages. Yoshi jumps into the book to investigate, discovering and cataloging creatures along the way. It’s very much in the same lane as Yoshi’s Woolly World and Yoshi’s Crafted World, with a cute, casual 2D experience that won’t be too punishing. The trailer does tease Bowser Jr., so there’s likely more to the story than what Nintendo has shown so far.
Yoshi, who is by far my favorite Nintendo character, will be playing a big role in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is heading to theaters on April 1. Yesterday, Nintendo and Illumination shared the movie’s final trailer, and revealed Yoshi’s most unexpected voice actor, Donald Glover, formerly known as Childish Gambino.
