Ever since Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition’s release last year, there were rumors it would eventually receive a Switch 2 Edition after people picked up on a hidden 60 FPS mode. That version has finally been announced and is available starting today, at least digitally, on Nintendo eShop and the My Nintendo Store. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition adds up to 4K resolution at up to 60 FPS in TV mode, and up to 1080p at up to 60 FPS in handheld mode. Yes, that means Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is the real definitive edition. A physical version of the game is heading to select retailers starting April 16.

No other significant changes were announced, and the upgrade costs $4.99 for those who currently own the game. Buying the complete game will run you $64.99 on the Switch 2.

Originally launched on the Nintendo Wii U, Xenoblade Chronicles X was my favorite game on that console and one that I just couldn’t wait to get a remastered version. I played it when it launched last year, and as I said in my review, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition has enough polish to smooth out the original’s roughest edges. At the end of the day, though, the game’s core design remains divisive as ever. It’s an RPG that’s narratively sparse, mechanically dense, and structurally uneven. All that said, it’s a fantastic game if you love long, sprawling RPGs and love exploring giant open worlds. Besides, it has giant mechs—what more could you want?
