Microsoft has announced that it will be offering the Xbox One without a Kinect starting June 9, 2014 in all markets that the console is currently being sold. Matching the price of the PlayStation 4, the Kinectless Xbox One will be available for $399 and owners will be able to access entertainment apps such as Twitch, YouTube and Netflix without needing a membership to Xbox Live Gold. In addition, Games with Gold will be heading to the Xbox One starting next month with Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault. A single Gold membership will give users access to Games with Gold on both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
Similar to what Sony offers with its PlayStation Plus, Xbox Live Gold subscribers will also be eligible for discounts on games with savings of up to 50 to 75 percent on certain titles. The first titles to be offered in June include Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome and “a few other surprises,” according to Microsoft.
A standalone Kinect will be available later this fall.
