Prior to the official unveiling of the Xbox one, the Internet was full of rumors that the next-generation console would be called the Xbox Infinity. Turns out, it could have been – and probably should have been. In an interview with Forbes, Senior Director of Marketing and Planning for Xbox, Albert Penello, confirmed that the Xbox Infinity name “was in the running,” and that “Who’s to say they [the brand team] didn’t leak that name out in the weeks ahead of the launch?”
Penello also confirmed in the interview that the Xbox One will ship with an HDMI 1.4 cable that will support 4K resolution, and that the next-generation console will ship with 4K support. Of course, 4K will be up to the developers on whether or not their games will support the high resolution. As for the Xbox One’s pricing, Microsoft was always firm on the $499.99 price tag, no matter what Sony’s move was going to be.
Unfortunately, there’s still no release date set for the Xbox One. Penello joked that it would be November 31, but of course, there’s no November 31 on the calendar.
