The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launches September 29, CD Projekt Red announced during gamescom Opening Night Live today, and it arrives as a free upgrade for anyone who already owns the game on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, or PC. The stream also delivered a first look at Songs of the Past, the expansion CD Projekt Red first slotted into its gamescom plans back in July, which has a 2027 window and a brand new region.

The remaster touches nearly every part of the game, pairing upgraded visuals and performance with enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, new witcher sign effects, revamped mount handling, enhanced monster behaviors, a skill tree revamp, transmogrification, an expanded photo mode, and new finishers. Co-developer Yigsoft, a team that has already worked on The Witcher 3, is handling the remaster alongside CD Projekt Red.

Remastered also marks the first time The Witcher 3 goes native on Switch 2, with preorders open now, and the first time the game lands on Battle.net through a new partnership between CD Projekt Red and Blizzard Entertainment. Anyone who purchases Songs of the Past on Blizzard’s platform will unlock a Geralt-inspired skin in Diablo IV, with further details coming when CD Projekt Red attends BlizzCon in September. As a surprise announced on stage, all current owners of The Witcher 3 are getting the game’s original two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, for free starting today.

As for Songs of the Past, the teaser introduced Letten, an idyllic land rich in rural tradition and folklore that hides a dark secret beneath its surface. Geralt returns with new abilities and a new weapon, the chain, as he faces never-before-seen foes. The expansion is being co-developed with Fool’s Theory, a studio whose leadership includes Witcher 3 veterans, and it launches in 2027 as a paid expansion on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC, with wishlists open now on select platforms.

CD Projekt Red is hosting guided presentations of both Songs of the Past and Remastered in Hall 8.1 throughout gamescom, and for those not attending in person, REDstreams presentations covering specific areas of each will run on YouTube and Twitch throughout the event. The Witcher 3 originally launched in 2015 and has sold more than 65 million copies, and Songs of the Past will be its first new expansion since 2016’s Blood and Wine, arriving while the studio also works on The Witcher 4.
