For the first time since The Frozen Throne in 2003, Warcraft III has a new campaign, and instead of giving it a release date, Blizzard shadow dropped it during the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony. Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom is a paid campaign covering the last days of Lordaeron after its fall to the Scourge and the founding of the Undercity beneath it, with the Scarlet Crusade and the Scourge as the enemies you’ll face along the way. The story runs through a prologue and three chapters, which the 3.0.0 patch notes list as two campaign entries, The Last Days of Lordaeron and Forsaken Kingdom, and Blizzard puts the total at more than 30 hours of new story. It’s $29.99 on Battle.net.
Warcraft III is on my list of the best games I’ve ever played, but I was disappointed by the initial launch of Reforged, and the 2.0 patch that arrived with the Warcraft Remastered Battle Chest in November 2024 was Blizzard’s first serious attempt at fixing it. The 3.0 update goes further and is free for everyone who owns Reforged. Classic HD has been replaced by a new Definitive Edition mode, and the old addon system is gone in favor of a straight choice between Classic, Definitive Edition, and Reforged graphics, selectable per mission. Max selection group size jumps from 12 to 24, campaign progress now unlocks across modes, HD gets improved water, fog of war, and unlimited lights, and there’s a new set of stats including Ability Amp, Ability Vamp, Crit Chance, and Resolve. The Forsaken Paladin joins as a new neutral Tavern hero available to all players regardless of whether they buy the campaign, custom lobbies can be password protected, and Blizzard added nine new game servers, including Oregon, Toronto, São Paulo, Singapore, Osaka, and Belgium.
The World Editor gets the longest section of the patch notes. There’s a new lighting editor with editable and shadow-casting omni lights, HD water and doodad decals, expanded fog options with live editing, a free camera, doodads that rotate on pitch and roll, team colors on doodads and items, dynamic minimap generation, a Copy As Script option for triggers, Lua conversion for triggers, a map-level post-processing tool, and an undo stack that’s now user configurable to near infinite.
One change to know before updating: LAN mode has been removed from the Reforged client, which now requires an online connection at all times, though both LAN and offline play remain available through the Classic client. Forsaken Kingdom is also bundled with Reforged in the Warcraft Forever Collection pre-purchase for World of Warcraft: Forever, and Reforged remains on PC Game Pass, where the free 3.0 update applies but the campaign still requires purchase.
