Today’s Nintendo Direct suggests that the Nintendo Switch is approaching the end of its lifecycle. While there were plenty of trailers, Nintendo ended the Direct with an announcement trailer for yet another remake, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. For me, the highlight of today’s Nintendo Direct was the brilliantly named game, Unicorn Overlord. It’s an upcoming tactical fantasy RPG from Vanillaware, the creators of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, one of the best games I’ve ever played.

The game will combine overworld exploration with an innovative battle system in Vanillaware’s iconic style. Players will be able to build a grand army with over 60 characters, growing their renown throughout the five nations. Vanillaware’s take on a Final Fantasy Tactics-style game? I’m sold.

Unicorn Overlord is launching March 8, 2024 and will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
