As promised, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is undergoing its largest and most transformative evolution yet and will launch as a free update on June 10 as Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege X. The updated title will be available on Ubisoft+, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. One of the biggest changes as part of the Siege X update is the introduction of Dual Front, a permanent and evolving 6v6 mode. In it, players will have to secure three enemy sectors, while defending their own on a new map called District. District has been designed exclusively for Dual Front.

For the first time in Siege, players in Dual Front will be able to mix both Attackers and Defenders when choosing from a curated roster of 35 operators. During the match, they can venture into the Neutral Sector to engage with time-limited assignments, earning rewards that will help their squad gain an advantage in the match. This introduces a new strategic element, as taking on these assignments will leave certain positions vulnerable to enemy attacks. Players will have the ability to respawn and repick a new operator in Dual Front, which makes it a bit more approachable to newer players as well.

Along with the new mode, Siege X will visually enhance classic Siege maps, outfitting them with new lighting, shadows, and up to 4K textures. At launch, the following maps will be enhanced: Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe. Three additional maps will be modernized every season. Siege X will also add new destructible ingredients, such as fire extinguishers, gas pipes, and metal detectors, adding a new layer of strategy with players using the environment to their advantage. The team has also made rappel navigation more fluid, improving controls and giving players the ability to run horizontally and jump around building corners more effectively.

Audio enhancements are also a focus for Siege X, which includes a rework of audio propagation and reverberation. The goal is to give players critical intel through audio cues, so they can better pinpoint the location of enemies on the map. For newer players, the onboarding experience is being refreshed with updated tutorials and field training. The Pick and Ban system is also being updated to create a new strategic layer by allowing teams to react and adapt to enemy strategies through simultaneous banning each round.

Finally, Siege X will unveil R6 ShieldGuard, which aims to unify all existing anti-cheat initiatives to safeguard the game. This includes live security updates that can happen without the need for scheduled maintenance. Current player protection features will also be improved, including anti-toxicity initiatives and an improved reputation system.

With the introduction of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege X on June 10, the game will be free to access. New players will have access to Dual Front, Unranked, and Quick Play modes, with the ability to earn up to 26 operators through progression. The premium editions will allow players to unlock Ranked Mode and Siege Cup, once they hit level 50. Those editions also provide immediate access to more operators. Current players have nothing to worry about, as all previously unlocked content will carry over, including operators, inventory, and progression. As a bonus, they’ll receive exclusive veteran rewards based on the year they joined the game.

A closed beta is now live until March 19 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC where players can check out the new Dual Front mode.
