The original Hyrule Warriors was a nice surprise for the Wii U in 2014, before it went to the 3DS a couple of years later and eventually to the Nintendo Switch in 2018. Developed by Omega Force and Team Ninja, it took the hack-and-slash formula made popular by the Dynasty Warriors franchise and added a Legend of Zelda twist to it. The next entry in the series is currently in development by Koei-Tecmo Games with support from Nintendo and tells the untold story of Hyrule’s distant past during the Imprisoning War, which ultimately led to the events in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
This is going to be a canonical tale featuring Princess Zelda, King Rauru, and other familiar characters for those who played both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The game currently doesn’t have a release date, but it’s slated for winter.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment may not be the Zelda title everyone was hoping to see with the announcement of the Switch 2 earlier today, but both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are getting Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. These versions will feature performance upgrades on the new console, along with smoother frame rates, faster load times, and better graphics. The Nintendo Switch app is also getting an update to add a new feature called Zelda Notes. It can be used exclusively with the Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of the games to help players navigate various locations and provide commentary from Princess Zelda that was not part of the original games. The Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be available on the launch day of the Switch 2, June 5.
