As promised, Star Wars Zero Company premiered an official announce trailer at Star Wars Celebration Japan, giving us our first look at the upcoming turn-based tactics game from developer Bit Reactor, in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games. The single-player title is set to launch in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Interestingly, there’s currently no mention of the Switch 2, which seems like an ideal platform for a game like this.
Set in the twilight of the Clone Wars, Star Wars Zero Company has players stepping into the shoes of former Republic officer Hawks. They’ll command an elite squad of operatives through a gritty and authentic original story that has your typical “emerging threat that will consume the galaxy if left unchecked” vibes. Some players will probably be a bit disappointed that the story isn’t more grounded and instead chases another save-the-galaxy plotline, but hopefully it’s at least well-written.
Seemingly drawing influence from Marvel’s Midnight Suns, players will be able to develop a base of operations in between missions. They’ll have to gather intelligence through a network of informants to stay ahead of Zero Company’s adversaries, and they’ll have the freedom to create and customize their own squad of operators. There is a main cast, so to speak, of newly authored Star Wars characters. Don’t worry, though—even Hawks’ appearance and combat class can be fully customized.
We don’t know the identities of the other characters revealed today, but there’s certainly a variety, including Clone Troopers, astromechs, Jedi, and bounty hunters. The small bit of gameplay we see in the trailer looks promising, and as a turn-based tactics fan, I can’t wait to learn more. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until 2026 to get our hands on it, which is a long time to wait if Star Wars Outlaws left a bad taste in your mouth like it did in mine.
