Foamstars, Square Enix’s take on Splatoon, will launch exclusively on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on February 6, 2024. This online 4v4 foam party shooter will be included in the PlayStation Plus monthly game lineup from launch until March 4, allowing subscribers to redeem, download, and play it at no extra cost. Players who redeem the game in this period can keep it in their PlayStation Plus library and play as long as they maintain their subscription to the service. Beginning March 5, Foamstars will be priced at $29.99 on the PlayStation Store, and playing the game will require a PlayStation Plus subscription.

Currently, Square Enix has committed to providing free themed seasonal updates for a span of one year. These seasons will introduce several new elements, including cosmetics, playable characters, maps, and game modes. Unsurprisingly, the game will feature an optional Premium Season Pass priced at $5.99, which includes additional season-specific cosmetics and immediate access to Season Pass characters.

At launch, Foamstars offers three PvP multiplayer gameplay modes: Smash the Star, Happy Bath Survival, and Rubber Duck Party. Each mode has three maps, and maps are randomized for matchmaking to help keep things fresh. For players not interested in PvP, there are Squad Missions, offering solo and team-based PvE experiences. In these missions, players are tasked with defending Bath Vegas from a series of randomized encounters, providing a great way to learn the game. Foamstars will also offer numerous in-game challenges with rewards, including a new playable character or large experience bonuses for Season Pass progress.
