Toys for Bob revealed Spyro: A Realm Beyond at the XBOX Games Showcase, a new original adventure starring the purple dragon from the studio behind the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. It is the first original mainline Spyro game in nearly two decades, with studio head Paul Yan describing it as the new adventure longtime fans have been pushing for. The game is set to launch in Spring 2027.

For his new outing, Spyro carries an evolved version of the look established in the Reignited Trilogy, with subtle changes meant to suggest he has grown, most notably a larger wingspan. Tom Kenny returns to voice the character, which Yan said was important for keeping the plucky, youthful personality intact. The bigger wingspan ties into the central change for the series, as Spyro can now take to the air with full dragon flight rather than the limited gliding of the classic games.

In the older games, Spyro could only glide down from jumps or fly during a handful of timed mini-levels, and Yan said the goal here was to fold those ideas into his core moveset. The result is freer flight that lets players take off at a moment’s notice and move between charging on the ground and soaring through the air. Yan also stressed that the colorful, whimsical worlds and sense of discovery central to the series carry over, with spaces full of activities, characters, and treasures to find.

Tonally, Yan described Spyro: A Realm Beyond as more grown up than previous entries, introducing a new antagonist who raises the stakes and pushes Spyro to grow as a hero, while keeping the joyful, dream-like feel the series is known for. Spyro: A Realm Beyond launches in Spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, including on Steam and in XBOX Game Pass, with XBOX Play Anywhere support across console and PC.
