Rebellion, the studio behind the Sniper Elite franchise, Zombie Army series, and Atomfall, debuted a brand-new IP during today’s Xbox Partner Preview. Alien Deathstorm is a first-person action horror game set on a remote off-world colony that’s being torn apart by a cataclysmic storm and alien creatures. It’s coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam in 2027, and it’ll be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.

Players take on the role of the Combat Engineer, a highly trained first responder dispatched to a colony that’s gone completely silent. You arrive days, possibly weeks, ahead of a full rescue fleet, and your job is to figure out what happened and save as many lives as possible. The problem is that a massive storm, the Deathstorm, is actively ripping the colony apart, and alien creatures are making things significantly worse. What starts as a rescue mission quickly turns into a fight for survival.

The reveal trailer didn’t show a ton of gameplay, but it set a strong tone. There’s a real sense of isolation and dread, and the combination of environmental destruction from the storm with alien threats gives Rebellion plenty of room to build tension. The studio knows how to make satisfying combat, especially from a first-person perspective, so if the horror elements land, Alien Deathstorm could be a compelling entry in a genre that has been trending toward more action-oriented experiences.

Rebellion says it will reveal more about Alien Deathstorm soon. Given how early the game appears to be, we’ll likely be waiting a while for a deeper look at gameplay, but I’m sure some will be interested in the premise.
