Sony has debuted a new look for the PlayStation 5 console, sporting a smaller and slimmer design than the current offering. The company isn’t officially calling it the PlayStation 5 Slim, but that’s essentially what it is. The smaller form factor packs all the same technology as the current PlayStation 5 but adds an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive (for the digital console) and a 1TB SSD for more internal storage.

According to Sony, the new PlayStation 5 model offers a 30% reduction in volume and weight reductions of 18% and 24% compared to previous models. The new console has four separate cover panels, with the top portion featuring a glossy appearance, while the bottom remains with a matte finish. Those who purchase the Digital Edition can separately add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive for $79.99 USD (119.99 EURO | 99.99 GBP | 11,980 JPY).

The new console will be available starting this November in the U.S. at select retailers and direct.playstation.com. The global rollout will come in the following months. After the current PlayStation 5 model sells out, only the new slimmer version will be available. So if you want to collect the current PlayStation 5 console, you better get your hands on one soon!

Here’s pricing for the new PlayStation 5 model:

  • U.S.
    • PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – 499.99 USD
    • PS5 Digital Edition – 449.99 USD
  • Europe
    • PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – 549.99 EUR
    • PS5 Digital Edition – 449.99 EUR
  • U.K.

    • PS5 Digital Edition – 389.99 GBP
  • Japan
    • PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – 66,980 JPY (includes tax)
    • PS5 Digital Edition – 59,980 JPY (includes tax)

Similar to the existing PlayStation 5, the new model will come with a horizontal stand. But Sony did announce a new vertical stand that is compatible with all PlayStation 5 models and will be made available separately for $29.99 USD (29.99 EURO | 24.99 GBP | 3,980 JPY).

For those looking to customize their new PlayStation 5, new console covers will debut in early 2024. Options will include an all-matte Black, Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver. The PlayStation 5 console covers will start from $54.99 USD (54.99 EURO | 44.99 GBP | 7,480 JPY).
