Slay the Spire 2 has sold three million units in just one week of Early Access. Developer Mega Crit shared the milestone in its latest Neowsletter, alongside the staggering stat that players have already attempted over 25 million runs, with the studio noting that number is actually undercounted since they started tracking the metric a bit after launch. For a game that’s only available on PC in Early Access, those are remarkable numbers, though not entirely surprising given that Slay the Spire 2 peaked at over 575,000 concurrent players on Steam shortly after launch.
I shared my first impressions of Slay the Spire 2 earlier this week after spending around 30 hours with it, and the game already feels like it has hundreds of hours of content baked in. The co-op alone has been a massive draw, and it’s clear the community agrees. Mega Crit co-founder Casey Yano popped into the newsletter to say the response has been incredible, joking that he threw out his back from overworking but is high in spirits.
As for what’s next, Mega Crit isn’t ready to commit to a specific roadmap or timeline for major content updates beyond what’s already been confirmed, which includes alternate acts for Acts 2 and 3, more cards, events, and other new content. In the near term, the team is focused on a revamp of the badge and scoring system, a friends-only leaderboard filter, a phobia accessibility mode, more art and VFX, ongoing balance patches, Steam Workshop support, multiplayer quality-of-life features, and official Twitch plugin integration. The studio also noted that community feedback has already helped them fix softlocks and other issues, and balancing will be an ongoing process as they analyze player data.
Three million copies in a week for an Early Access game from a small team is a great achievement. The original Slay the Spire essentially created the deckbuilding roguelite genre, so maybe the sales isn’t that big of a surprise. But these days,
