The latest entry in the long-running Civilization franchise, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, is getting a VR version on Meta Quest 3 and 3S sometime this Spring. The announcement comes from 2K and Firaxis Games, and it’s being developed by PlaySide Studios. Civilization VII – VR is the franchise’s first entry into virtual and mixed reality and will give players a new way to experience Civilization. Gameplay takes shape on top of a Command Table, allowing players to look down from high above, or even lean all the way in to admire the finer details of buildings and units. The team is trying to deliver the same experience as bringing a tabletop game to life, allowing players to engage face-to-face with iconic world leaders around the Command Table.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII – VR will support both virtual reality and mixed reality, with players having the ability to switch freely between the two at any time. In virtual reality mode, players are transported to an ornate museum as they look onto a vista personalized to their leader, while in mixed reality, the Command Table adapts to its placement based on the player’s physical space. The game will support both single player and online multiplayer matches with up to three other Meta Quest 3 and 3S players. Those who wish to enjoy the game online will need 2K and Meta accounts.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII officially launches on February 11, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC. While there’s no exact release date for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII – VR available yet, you can wishlist the game here.
