Last year, the team at Jagex surprised RuneScape fans with the announcement of RuneScape: Dragonwilds, a crafting survival game set in the RuneScape universe. The game launched into Early Access shortly after its reveal, and we jumped straight into it to see everything it had to offer. Our first impressions of the game were positive, and we’ve been keeping a close eye on its development to decide when we’ll revisit it. That time might be soon, since the RuneScape: Dragonwilds team held its first summit, sharing information on the game’s expanding content for this year and beyond. It also announced that RuneScape: Dragonwilds has now sold over one million copies since it launched into Steam Early Access in April 2025.

Set on Gielinor’s forgotten continent of Ashenfall, RuneScape: Dragonwilds is focused on expanding its world throughout 2026. Dowdun Reach is currently set to launch toward the end of March, and it’s an area that’s choking under the shadow of Zamorak, the God of Chaos. The zone will house a mountain fortress that is now haunted by the Black Knights. Dowdun Reach will be home to layered quests, materials for mithril-tier gear and weapons, and Blue Dragons. Players will get to explore the stronghold’s labyrinthine halls, battlements, armories, and inner chambers to uncover all its secrets.

The update will also see the debut of Fishing, giving players a new skill to level up. In addition, the overall level cap for each skill in the game will increase to 99, with content being added retroactively to existing skills in future updates.

This summer will see the desert region of the Umbral Sands arrive in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. The biome will introduce a dynamic environmental system, as players will be exposed to blistering heat and rays that drain their health. That means shade and time of day will be critical to surviving in the Umbral Sands. The area is ruled by Fuzan, the Red Dragon General, and will introduce several iconic RuneScape items to the game, including Adamant tier gear, Red Dragonhide, Yew Bows and Staffs, and Icthlarin, the Demigod of the Underworld.

Next year will see the Scorned Wilderness arrive, currently scheduled to launch in September 2027. This zone will bring the Kuldra Saga to a conclusion as players finally take on Kuldra, the God Eater. These are currently the major content updates slated for RuneScape: Dragonwilds, but the game will continue to receive monthly minor updates that add new quests and activities, along with quality-of-life fixes.
