Jagex continues to move fast with RuneScape: Dragonwilds. The crafting survival game launched into Early Access last April with a surprise shadow drop, and the team has been steadily building on it ever since. The next major content update, Dowdun Reach, arrives on March 31, introducing a brand-new region centered around a corrupted, labyrinthine fortress ruled by the Black Knight Titan.
Dowdun Reach is described as a vast, interconnected stronghold populated by splinter groups, Lesser Blue Dragons, and armored Black Knight forces. Players exploring the fortress will find secret-filled corridors, side quests, and the bodies of the fallen. It sounds like a significant step up in scale from the game’s previous updates, including December’s Fellhollow region and February’s Beyond the Grave, which added additional quests and activities.
The update also raises the level cap for all skills to 99, and with it comes max level skill caps. Jagex notes that while the skills aren’t fully finished yet, the increased cap means players won’t waste XP as they grind, with backfilled content automatically unlocking as it’s added. A new tier of Mithril gear makes its debut as well, with rich veins of ore scattered throughout the fortress. Eight Mithril weapons are being added, including a Greataxe and Greatsword, alongside the Maple Shortbow and Longbow, Blue Dragon Hide armor, and the iconic Mystic Robes for magic users.
Looking ahead, Jagex has two more major updates planned for 2026: Umbral Sands in late Q2 and Scorned Wilderness in late Q3. The much-anticipated Fishing Skill is also coming later in April. We spent time with RuneScape: Dragonwilds at launch and found it to be a solid foundation with heavy Valheim influences, so it’s good to see Jagex continuing to flesh out the experience. The game is currently available on Steam Early Access and is 30 percent off during the Steam Spring Sale.
