Nintendo opened the latest Nintendo Direct with the return of one of its most offbeat series: Rhythm Heaven Groove, the first new entry in roughly a decade. It launches July 2 on Nintendo Switch and is also playable on Nintendo Switch 2, with preorders open now.

Rhythm Heaven Groove packs over 80 rhythm games for solo play and more than 30 for co-op and competitive multiplayer, all built around timing your button presses to the beat. The activities are as offbeat as ever, having you catch flying veggies, bounce fruit off your biceps, swing sledgehammers, slice arrows, and pluck hair from onions. Up to four players can gather around a single system, and there’s also an unlockable mode called Beatspell that has you casting spells to the beat to take down monsters.

Backing it all is a soundtrack of catchy original music, including tracks from renowned Japanese musician Tsunku♂. True to the series, the new rhythm games are easy to learn and rewarding to master.
