Resident Evil 6, for the most part, was not well received by its die-hard fans and developer Capcom has acknowledged that. In fact, the company has announced in an interview with MCV that it has listened to the negative feedback from its latest Resident Evil title and plans to go back to its survival horror roots for Resident Evil 7. Hoping to appeal to a wider audience with RE6, the game instead, turned off its hardcore fans and wasn’t embraced by new comers to the series. In a way, it felt like Capcom tried to do too much with the game, so much so that consumers felt that it was “bloated.”
Given the recent success of The Last of Us, clearly there’s still a market for zombie/apocalyptic survival horror games, but TLOU succeeded behind its strong story telling and unique gameplay elements. Can Capcom prove that its Resident Evil series can once again be popular and successful with Resident Evil 7?
