Blizzard has announced that Reaper of Souls sales have topped 2.7 million in its first week of availability. The first Diablo III expansion was released on March 25, 2014 for the PC and brought numerous changes to the game including the addition of Adventure Mode, Bounties, Nephalem Rifts, an entirely new Act and the Crusader class. The 2.7-million figure includes both digital and physical sales of the expansion, but pales in comparison to the over 6.5-million copies sold from the original game in the first week of release.
The company also announced that Malthael has been slain over 1.5 million times and 2.4-million views chimed in on Twitch in the first day of its availability. In total, Diablo III has sold over 15-million units since its launch in 2012, including copies for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Reaper of Souls and its content will be heading to the consoles later this year.
“With Reaper of Souls, we wanted to emphasize all the things that Diablo gamers have always loved about the series, from the dark gothic setting to the piles and piles of epic loot,” said Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime. “We’re excited to see that players are enjoying the changes we’ve made to the game, and we look forward to achieving our Paragon levels alongside everyone else in the weeks and months ahead.”
