Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble is shutting down less than a year after it was announced, and before it ever got a global launch. Developer Oh BiBi and Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed on the game’s official website that development on the free-to-play mobile hero shooter has ended, with the final planned update arriving today, November 6. The app will be removed from the App Store and Google Play on November 21, and anyone who already has it installed can keep playing until May 1, 2027, when the servers permanently shut down and the game will no longer load. Oh BiBi built Ranger Rumble in collaboration with PlayStation Studios and Insomniac Games, and the game had been in soft launch in select regions, starting with the Philippines and Indonesia, since its announcement.

When Ranger Rumble first surfaced last November, it did so without a PlayStation Blog post or a trailer on PlayStation’s official YouTube channel, on the same day NCSoft and Guerrilla Games revealed Horizon Steel Frontiers for PC and mobile. The game cast players as recruits in Captain Qwark’s combat simulation to find the next generation of Galactic Rangers, with 12 heroes and six modes planned for launch, including team PvP, PvE wave battles, and a battle royale-inspired mode. I said at the time that it looked like a typical mobile multiplayer shooter, and I had a feeling it wouldn’t offer much to help it stand out from the crowd. As recently as July, PlayStation opened worldwide pre-registration and said the game was gearing up for a global launch after regional testing in Canada, the Nordics, France, and Asia, though a release date never followed. Ranger Rumble is now headed for the same fate as Final Fantasy XIV Mobile, which shut down in China earlier this year without ever going global.

For those still playing, all current game modes, matchmaking, and competitive features remain active until May 1, 2027. In-app purchases have already been removed, the Super Pass is now free, and the Qwark Pass seasons will continue to run until the shutdown, so all seasonal content can be earned through play. Pre-registration rewards will be delivered to the inbox of players who log in after the final update, and any currency, earned or purchased, has to be used before the servers go offline. Refund eligibility is handled through the App Store or Google Play, and all player data will be wiped at the end of service. The FAQ also confirms the decision has no impact on other Ratchet & Clank games or PlayStation services.
