PUBG Is Getting an Official Card Game Headed to Kickstarter
PUBG: Final Circle turns the battle royale into a trick-taking card game for two to five players, with a Kickstarter campaign coming soon.
KRAFTON has signed off on an official PUBG card game, with Seoul-based tabletop startup CardMonster announcing PUBG: Final Circle, a trick-taking battle royale for two to five players that’s headed to Kickstarter. CardMonster was founded in September 2023 by CEO Suhyun Son, who previously worked as a designer and producer at Nexon, PUBG, and KRAFTON, and the company has developed Disney-licensed board games under an agreement with The Walt Disney Company Korea. Solis Game Studio is listed as a development partner on Final Circle, and the game was playable at SPIEL Essen in Germany from October 22 to October 25. It’s another expansion of the PUBG IP following PUBG Studios’ testing of its extraction shooter, PUBG: Black Budget, late last year, though development on that project was canceled in September.
Each player is assigned a character with a unique ability, and a new battleground is revealed every round as players draw cards to loot weapons and items to use against the other survivors at the table. Combat is resolved through trick-taking, so players have to match the color of the first card played if they can, and the card they choose determines both their odds of winning the trick and how much damage they deal if they do. Higher-numbered cards are more likely to win but deal less damage, while harder-hitting cards are tougher to win with. Anyone who can’t match the lead color can still play a counter-color card to turn the trick, and matching the number of an earlier card can trigger an Ambush that deals damage immediately instead of waiting for Combat to end.
Once Combat is resolved, the winner picks another survivor to attack, though players can defend themselves with scavenged gear and their character abilities, adapting to whichever battleground is in play. Survivors are eliminated one by one until a single player is left standing to claim the chicken dinner. PUBG joins Palworld, which got its own card game in July, and Final Fantasy VII, which is getting a co-op board game in 2027, among the video game franchises heading to the tabletop. CardMonster hasn’t shared a Kickstarter launch date, a funding goal, pricing, or what’s in the box, but the campaign’s pre-launch page is live with a notify-me option for when it goes live.
