Sony has announced its financial results for the quarter ending on December 31, 2024, revealing that PlayStation 5 hardware sold 9.5 million units in those three months. That’s an increase of 1.3 million units compared to the previous year. Full game software sales, which include PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 titles, totaled 95.9 million units for the quarter, up from 89.7 million units the prior year. First-party PlayStation title sales dropped from 16.2 million to 11.6 million, mainly because PlayStation didn’t have many new releases last holiday season. PlayStation Network saw 129 million monthly active users during that quarter, a bump from 123 million in 2023.

These results indicate that the PlayStation 5 had its most successful quarter yet, contributing to the console’s overall sales of 75 million. These units include both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, which launched on November 7, 2024. Unfortunately, Sony is bundling PlayStation 5 Pro sales with its hardware numbers, so we don’t have an exact figure on how well or poorly the PlayStation 5 Pro performed last quarter.

Recently, Sony shared the PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2024, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 leading in the U.S. and Canada, while EA Sports FC 25 topped the charts in Europe on the PlayStation 5.
