Today’s Nintendo Direct was full of great announcements, including a new Super Mario Bros. game and a Super Mario RPG remake. The next first-party game we are getting is Pikmin 4, set to release on July 21. The latest in the peculiar franchise starring plant-like creatures called Pikmin will mark the first time players can set out for night expeditions. But it isn’t without danger, as nightfall causes the creatures to go into a frenzy and players will have to use the new Glow Pikmin to drive them away.

Unlike previous Pikmin games, players get to create their own character in Pikmin 4, as the latest recruit to Rescue Corps. Joined by adorable Rescue Pup Oatchi, Pikmin 4 is a great entry point to the franchise if you’ve never experienced a Pikmin game before. If you’re interested, surprise announcements were made today about HD remakes of both Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2.

The latest trailer also showed off Dandori Battles, where players will have to try to collect more objects than their opponent within the time limit to win and save the castaway. The game looks to be packed with a variety of different environments to explore, and plenty of treasures to collect in order to unlock upgrades. Not sure what to expect? Pikmin 4 gets a demo next week on June 28, so you’ll have an opportunity to see if its gameplay appeals to you.
