Phil Spencer has been named the new person to lead Xbox as Microsoft combines the Xbox and Xbox Live development teams with the Microsoft Studios team. The news comes following the announcement of Marc Whitten’s departure from Xbox, with Spencer reporting to Terry Myerson. Spencer will lead the Xbox, Xbox Live, Xbox Music and Xbox Video teams along with Microsoft Studios. Spencer’s role also confirms that Microsoft will combine all the company’s software, gaming and content assets across the Xbox team under a single leader.
Spencer released a statement of his own on Xbox Wire, confirming that more news will come as we head into E3.
“This past year has been a growth experience both for me and for the entire Xbox team,” said Spencer. “We’ve taken feedback, made our products better and renewed our focus on what is most important, our customer. Our mission is to build a world-class team, work hard to meet the high expectations of a passionate fan base, create the best games and entertainment and drive technical innovation. As we continue forward, this renewed focus and mission will be a foundational part of how I lead the Xbox program.”
