Four classic original XBOX games are now playable on PC and handhelds for the first time, marking the debut of XBOX Backward Compatibility on PC, which rolls out today in early release. The feature works through the XBOX on PC app across desktops and handhelds like the ROG XBOX Ally and XBOX Ally X, and XBOX is billing it as the start of a broader effort to preserve older games and bring more of them to PC over time.
The starting lineup covers BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy. Each game is available for purchase on PC and included with all XBOX Game Pass plans, and if you already own a digital license on console, it carries over to PC and handheld automatically. Through XBOX Play Anywhere and XBOX Cloud Gaming, all four titles are playable across console, cloud, PC, and handheld.
These releases aren’t one-to-one reissues of the originals, though, as each game picks up PC-focused options like up to 4x resolution upscaling, VSync support, fullscreen and windowed display modes, anisotropic filtering, and enhanced anti-aliasing, along with customizable language and audio settings. Achievements are also on the way. XBOX plans to bring one of its top fan-requested features to select original XBOX games on both console and PC later this year, and the first four games will be updated with Achievement support in the coming months.
