When Xbox announced its “This Is an Xbox” campaign, it was one of the first signs that the brand was shifting focus. Since then, it has announced hardware partnerships with Meta (Quest 3S Xbox Edition) and ASUS (ROG Xbox Ally handhelds), as well as Xbox Cloud Gaming on LG Smart TVs. Now, that relationship with LG Electronics is expanding as the two brands work to integrate the Xbox experience into select internet-connected vehicles.
The plan is to add the Xbox app to LG’s webOS Automotive Content Platform (ACP) so passengers in internet-connected vehicles can stream and play games. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will also be able to stream select games they already own, a program Xbox has been expanding with the upcoming release of the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally handhelds.
Currently, LG’s webOS-based ACP is available in the European Kia EV3 and will be added to the upcoming EV4, EV5, and new Sportage models. In South Korea, ACP can be found in the Genesis GV80 and GV80 Coupe. There is no official word yet on which vehicles will support the Xbox app, but for now it will be a very limited list if it stays only on LG’s ACP. It’s likely that Xbox is exploring Xbox Cloud Gaming for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, since that would be more universal.
