Koei Tecmo and developer Team Ninja have announced Nioh 3 at today’s State of Play, with a demo that is now live and playable until June 18. The next installment in the dark fantasy action RPG series will take place during Japan’s Sengoku period, with the protagonist being a young warrior poised to become the next Shogun. In Nioh 3, players will have the opportunity to fight using two distinct combat styles: Samurai and Ninja. The Samurai style delivers a gameplay experience similar to that of previous Nioh titles, but adds new actions such as Arts Proficiency, which enhances the power of martial arts. There’s also Deflect, allowing players to block enemy attacks at the last moment.
The Ninja, however, focuses on quick movements like dodging and aerial actions. They can, of course, use Ninjitsu techniques like Mist, which leaves behind a clone after an attack. The Ninja style also has Evade as its defensive skill. Interestingly, Team Ninja confirmed that players can switch between either style instantly at any time. Along with the two fighting styles, Nioh 3 adds an open field to give players new freedom of exploration.
The limited-time demo is exclusive to PlayStation 5, and the developers are asking players to provide feedback after checking it out. Team Ninja ultimately wants Nioh 3 to be the biggest and boldest Nioh yet, and hopes the community can help make that happen.
