Nintendo has finally announced official Switch 2 sales numbers, confirming the new console has sold 5.82 million units as of June 30, 2025. Meanwhile, the original Switch continues on its beaten path, having sold 153.10 million units as it inches closer to the PlayStation 2 record of around 160 million units. In addition, Mario Kart World has sold 5.63 million units as of June 30, 2025, indicating nearly every Switch 2 owner has the game.
Considering Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold 68.86 million units, it’s no surprise Mario Kart World is nearly matching console sales one-to-one. Obviously, that ratio is unlikely to continue as more Switch 2 units sell, but the Mario Kart World bundle is clearly working for the time being. It’s also an impressive first-month figure for the Switch 2, which officially launched on June 5, 2025. Since then, Donkey Kong Bananza has won over the hearts of many following its release on July 17, so it’ll be interesting to hear those sales figures after this quarter ends.
Perhaps what’s more impressive is seeing the Switch 2’s first-month sales relative to the Wii U’s lifetime sales of 13.56 million units. We all knew the Wii U was a disaster for Nintendo, but seeing these numbers side by side really shows just how poorly the Wii U performed.
