With the Nintendo Switch 2’s release now settling in, and two first-party titles (Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza) already out, we’re about to find out what the console has in store for the rest of this year. Nintendo has confirmed a Nintendo Direct for September 12, 2025, at 6:00 AM Pacific (9:00 AM Eastern), featuring roughly 60 minutes of information on upcoming Switch and Switch 2 games. It’s very likely we’ll get a release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond during the presentation, which is still scheduled for release in 2025. We should also get an update on Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment.
It’ll be interesting to see if Nintendo announces another major first-party title for the Switch 2. There are several franchises it could lean into next, including a 2D or 3D Mario game, though that seems unlikely given Donkey Kong Bananza’s release. A Luigi’s Mansion game is a possibility, but given how well Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold, we imagine there’s a new Animal Crossing in the works for 2026. Let’s not forget, though, that Nintendo also has Kirby Air Riders slated to release on November 20.
Unsurprisingly, the Nintendo Switch 2 is off to a hot start, having sold 5.82 million units as of June 30 following its launch on June 5. Meanwhile, the original Switch has eclipsed 153 million units and is eyeing the PlayStation 2’s record of around 160 million.
