NieR: Automata is one of the best games I’ve ever played, and after passing nine million sold in December 2024, Square Enix has confirmed the game has now sold 10 million units. In a new Japanese video celebrating the milestone, the publisher recaps all of the game’s accomplishments, releases, spinoffs, and all the different crossovers and collaborations 2B has shown up in. If you follow gaming in general, you’ll know at this point 2B is a running joke, and that she’ll eventually appear in every game imaginable. In fact, there are so many crossovers that the video basically just fast-forwards through the list.
The video also showcases many of the play adaptations NieR: Automata has received, concert events, and the well done anime series. Of course, fans of the franchise has been desperately awaiting news of a sequel, especially since the mobile game, NieR Re[in]carnation was shut down in April 2024. Well, the video ends with “NieR:Automata to be continued…” but that could mean any number of things. The video alone shows just how many other types of content the game and its characters have produced, so until we have actual confirmation that a new game is coming, I’m not going to get too excited.
