Sony has unveiled a new PlayStation Vita during its Japan PlayStation conference this evening. The new PlayStation Vita features a high-definition, five-inch display and is 20-percent thinner and 15-percent lighter compared to its predecessor. Six different colors will also be available, including yellow and pink. Sony also announced that it will be priced from 18,980 yen ($190 USD) not including tax in Japan, and that it will be available for purchase on October 10, 2013. A 64 GB memory card is also on its way and those in Japan interested in the new Vita can pre order it today.

In addition, Sony has replaced the Vita’s OLED screen with an LED screen. It’s unknown if the newer-generation LED screens will have the same quality compared to the current OLED displays. Generally speaking, OLED displays are much better quality than comparable LED displays.

No word on when it’ll make its way to America, but given the fact that Sony is trying to ensure the majority of its PlayStation 4 titles will support Remote Play, the new Vita should be U.S. bound by the time the PlayStation 4 hits stores on November 15, 2013.
