Moonshot Games has unveiled its first title, Wildgate. It’s yet another crew-based shooter, but it’s attempting to differentiate itself with spaceship combat. The premise of the game is that players assemble in groups of four and must work together to pilot their spacecraft, plunder wreckage, and discover forgotten loot. In order to win, crews must find and escape with the Artifact, or they can pursue a domination victory by destroying all rival ships by any means necessary.

Players take control of Prospectors as they venture into The Reach, a procedurally generated map with randomized encounters, rewards, and more that change with every game. The Prospectors appear to be standard fare from other hero shooters with abilities and tools, but the spaceship battles are intriguing. If done correctly, it could be a unique selling point for Wildgate.

Wildgate is set to launch sometime this year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Interested players can sign up to participate in a Community Preview playtest taking place from April 10 to April 14. If you’re curious about who Moonshot Games is, it’s one of Dreamhaven’s studios, which features several Blizzard veterans, including CEO Mike Morhaime.
