The website for the fan-made project, Mother 4, has gone live revealing a release date sometime in Winter 2014. The project, which is not affiliated, authorized, endorsed by, or in any way officially connected with Nintendo of America Inc., Shigesato Itoi, HAL Laboratory, Inc., or any of its subsidiaries or affiliates, is entirely fan made and will be a standalone game for Windows, OS X, and Linux. No emulators will be necessary and currently the team has no plans of porting it to a console or mobile operating system. According to the site’s FAQ, the team isn’t taking any donations and aren’t funded, so the project is bred purely out of passion and love for the Mother franchise.
The Mother franchise is more commonly known in America as Earthbound is a trilogy of games released in Japan. Unfortunately, Americans only saw one of those games, but it developed a huge, cult following. Earthbound was recently released on the Wii U Virtual Console.
