Mortal Kombat II, now arriving in theaters on May 15, 2026, made an appearance at New York Comic Con 2025. The movie was originally set for release on October 26, 2025, but Warner Bros. and N`ew Line Cinema delayed it in hopes of capturing a bigger summer audience. To get fans excited, a new featurette was shared featuring a bit of behind-the-scenes footage and some previously unseen scenes. The sequel stars Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, Johannes Taslim as Bi-Han, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Ana Thu Nguyen as Sindel, CJ Bloomfield as Baraka, Josh Lawson as Kano, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, Max Huang as King Lau, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, and Chin Han as Shang Tsung.

Director Simon McQuoid returns after directing the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie, while the screenplay is by Jeremy Slater. In a surprise, Slater also announced at the New York Comic Con 2025 panel that Mortal Kombat III is already in the works. It’ll likely be a while before we learn more about the third movie.

In case you haven’t heard, there’s also a Street Fighter movie in the works, set to hit theaters on October 16, 2026. It’s the 1990s all over again, with Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter duking it out at the box office. It’ll be interesting to see how the Street Fighter movie performs, especially since its cast has some interesting picks, including 50 Cent as Balrog.
