According to a Deadline report, Mortal Kombat II is moving its release date again. This time, it’s only by a week, as it will hit theaters on May 8, 2026, instead of May 15. This is the second time the movie’s release date has changed, as it was originally scheduled for October 24, 2025. New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. decided to move it to May 2026, though, in hopes of drawing a larger crowd. Now, it’ll land around Mother’s Day, which is May 10, 2026. Not quite the movie to take your mom to see, but hey, who knows, maybe she’s a Karl Urban fan.
The next movie in the rebooted franchise stars Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, Johannes Taslim as Bi-Han, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Ana Thu Nguyen as Sindel, CJ Bloomfield as Baraka, Josh Lawson as Kano, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, Max Huang as King Lau, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, and Chin Han as Shang Tsung. It’s clear New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. believe in the movie’s success, as they’ve already greenlit work on Mortal Kombat III.
Fans of 1990s fighting game franchises have a lot to look forward to. Along with Mortal Kombat II hitting theaters on May 8, 2026, a new Street Fighter movie is releasing on October 16, 2026. That one has a really interesting cast, including Jason Momoa as Blanka and 50 Cent as Balrog.
