Despite the marketing train having already left the station, Mortal Kombat II is reportedly now heading to theaters on May 15, 2026, instead of October 24, 2025. According to Deadline, Mortal Kombat II is moving out of the crowded October and Halloween corridor and is hoping to reap the benefits of a potentially bigger crowd in mid-May 2026. The sequel to the 2021 Mortal Kombat film sees Simon McQuoid returning as director, with the cast adding Karl Urban as Johnny Cage. Joining Urban are Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Lewis Tan as the original character Cole Young, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion.
The Mortal Kombat franchise has been in theaters numerous times, and the latest film is essentially a reboot, much like the game series recently did with Mortal Kombat 1. The movie grossed $84 million and was entertaining enough. I still find the original Mortal Kombat movie from 1995 the most entertaining, especially that epic soundtrack that lives on decades later.
