Mortal Kombat II, which has seen numerous changes to its release date, has dropped a fresh new trailer to remind everyone it’s still heading to theaters on May 8, 2026. The sequel to 2021’s surprisingly decent movie sees the return of director Simon McQuoid. Mortal Kombat II adds several new characters to the cast, but much of the plot will seemingly revolve around Karl Urban’s take on Johnny Cage. Cage will be joined by many other fan-favorite champions, including Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Jax, and Lord Raiden, while on the other side there’s Kitana, Kano, Jade, Baraka, and, of course, Shao Kahn.

The movie was originally set to release on October 24, 2025, but it got moved to May 2026 in hopes of capturing a much bigger crowd. The second release date was set for May 15 before it got moved up a week to May 8. Even though the second movie hasn’t been released yet, a third was already confirmed at New York Comic Con 2025.

For those who grew up in the 1990s playing Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, this year is a really entertaining one for us. Not only is Mortal Kombat II releasing in theaters, but we’re also getting a new Street Fighter movie in October. It’s got one of the craziest casts we’ve ever seen, including 50 Cent as Balrog and Jason Momoa as Blanka.
