Monster Train 2 has confirmed it will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC on May 21, 2025. That means the game’s release comes barely three months after it was originally announced on February 19, a trend we hope continues in the gaming industry. Developer Shiny Shoe also released a playable demo on February 19, which we greatly enjoyed and cannot wait to get our hands on the full game. As big fans of the original Monster Train, we look forward to seeing how the sequel evolves the formula.

Monster Train 2 will deliver new playable factions, card types, buff-granting train customization, an Endless Mode, Daily and Dimensional challenges, run mutators, leaderboards, and more. It will retain the three-floor battlefield that was introduced in the original, and we’re looking forward to how all the new cards in Monster Train 2 will create unstoppable decks and game-breaking synergies. We loved what we saw with the new Room and Equipment Cards in the demo, which added a new layer of strategy when building our decks.

If you are new to Monster Train, it is a roguelike deckbuilder that takes place on a train to hell. The goal is to defend three separate levels by using units and spells from your deck. While the game is clearly inspired by Slay the Spire, it plays quite differently and we highly recommend checking it out if you love deckbuilding games. At the very least, it will keep us busy until Slay the Spire 2 launches later this year.
