When Slay the Spire originally launched in 2017, it inspired numerous developers to create their own roguelike deck-building games. Arguably, one of the first major successes following Slay the Spire’s release was Monster Train in 2020, which put its own twist on the formula in a fun and addictive way. History seems to be repeating itself, as Slay the Spire 2 was announced in April 2024, and we got our first glimpse of gameplay in December. Now, Monster Train 2 has been announced, and a playable demo is available today.
Building on the classic roguelike deck-builder gameplay introduced in the original, Monster Train 2 introduces five brand-new clans, along with new Room and Equipment Cards. Players can also look forward to new and returning modes, including handcrafted scenarios in the Dimensional Challenges mode, an Endless Mode, and a Daily Challenge with leaderboards.
As for the demo, players can experiment with two of the five new clans: the Banished and the Pyreborne. It features a full run experience, but much of the content is locked, and players won’t be able to take on many of the new Titan-corrupted enemies that will be in the full game.
Monster Train 2 currently doesn’t have a release date, but it will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC.
