One month in, Monster Hunter Wilds has set a first-month sales record for Capcom by surpassing 10 million units sold. Released on February 28, 2025, the game quickly sold over eight million units in just three days, making it the fastest-selling title in Capcom’s history. It also set records on Steam, reaching over 1.3 million concurrent players shortly after launch. Contributing to the game’s sales success is the introduction of crossplay to the series, allowing players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC to hunt with one another. Unfortunately, as we mentioned in our review, playing online with friends can be a tedious and frustrating process.
Monster Hunter Wilds will receive its first free Title Update on April 4, marking the return of Mizutsune and the addition of the Grand Hub, a new in-game settlement designed for players to gather and communicate with one another before embarking on hunts. The update will also add Zoh Shia as a farmable monster, Arch-tempered Rey Dau as an Event Quest, and the Festival of Accord: Blossomdance seasonal event. Towards the end of May, players can also look forward to a collaboration event with another Capcom franchise along with other features. Title Update 2 is set to arrive sometime this summer.
Ever since its introduction in 2004, the Monster Hunter franchise has always been popular in the East. It really wasn’t until all the changes in Monster Hunter: World that the series became so popular in the West. As of December 31, 2024, cumulative sales of the Monster Hunter series are over 108 million units, which doesn’t include the recent success of Monster Hunter Wilds.
