This year marks the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros., which launched in Japan in 1985. As part of those celebrations, Nintendo of America has teamed up with Macy’s to announce a new Mario balloon for the 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 27, 2025. Created by the Macy’s Parade Studio team of artists in partnership with Nintendo of America, the Mario balloon measures 51 feet two inches long, 37 feet wide, and 43 feet eight inches tall. He’ll be wearing his iconic blue overalls and red cap, striking the flying pose from Super Mario Galaxy, which also is the title for the next movie.

Those attending the parade or visiting New York City can also stop by Nintendo New York. Recently, Nintendo announced its stores are getting a makeover for the holidays, and is currently running a giveaway for a trip to Nintendo San Francisco.

This year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air on November 27 in the U.S. on NBC and stream on Peacock from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM in all time zones.

“Having Mario join this iconic holiday tradition is an incredible way to honor the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.,” said Devon Pritchard, EVP of Revenue, Marketing & Consumer Experience at Nintendo of America. “Since he first emerged from a Warp Pipe, Mario has embodied our goal of bringing smiles to faces all over the world. We are excited for Mario fans of all ages to see his new balloon’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade debut.”
