For a game that’s not coming out until next year, Square Enix is sure trying its hardest to keep Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII in the spotlight. Perhaps pre-order numbers aren’t at what the company would like to see, but the latest in reveals is the Lightning Returns opening cinematic which has Lightning and Snow facing off in an Advent Children-like battle.

The opening cinematic also gives us a glimpse of Lumina, a new character in the series that resembles Serah, but isn’t Lightning’s sister. Earlier, Square Enix released an image showing off the full cast of the game with both Lumina and Serah are present.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will mainly focus on Lightning and her journey to save the world as “the savior” and it appears that she’ll have to face off against Snow, Noel and Caius in order to wrap up the trilogy’s storyline. The game is scheduled to be released on February 11, 2014 in North America for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game will feature numerous costumes including a Spira’s Summoner outfit that’s inspired by Yuna from Final Fantasy X. Japanese and European players will also have the chance to receive an Aerith costume, though no confirmation on a North American release has come.
