Lenovo has officially confirmed the Legion Go 2 will get a SteamOS variant in June 2026. The handheld is estimated to start at $1,199 and carries the same specs and features as the current Lenovo Legion Go 2 with Windows 11. It’ll be Lenovo’s most powerful handheld to natively ship with SteamOS, as it will be available with up to an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory, and up to a 2TB PCIe SSD. SteamOS will be optimized to make full use of the hardware, including the 8.8-inch OLED display.

While we don’t know what the base model specs are going to be, the SteamOS version’s starting price is $100 more than the Windows configuration with the AMD Z2 chipset, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. If the pricing difference continues, we could be looking at a $1,599 price for the Ryzen Z2 Extreme unit with 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD, since the Windows version costs $1,499.99.

Without a doubt, though, the Ryzen Z2 Extreme paired with SteamOS and an OLED display will be a tempting setup for those who only game on Steam. It is possible to install other launchers on SteamOS, but it requires some tinkering, and not everything works well out of the box. Personally, I’m still enjoying my ROG Xbox Ally X as I can live with some of the issues with Windows on a handheld, although the Xbox Full Screen Experience is making some improvements. I just find the size of the Lenovo Legion Go 2 too unwieldy to use for long sessions, while the ROG Xbox Ally X is just so comfortable to use with its grips.
